The music video for "Beautiful Liar" was helmed by English director Jake Nava, who directed several other Knowles videos such as "Crazy in Love", "Baby Boy", "Naughty Girl". The video was shot in only two days. The production of the video?especially its choreography?came spontaneously. Beyoncé and Shakira practiced the routines for just forty minutes. Beyoncé was just watching Shakira dancing and learned from it. In an interview, she stated:

I love to dance and perform but it was Shakira who taught me how to belly dance and who created most of the routine for Beautiful Liar. We didn?t have a lot of time to come up with the choreography - most of it was done on the spot. I was just watching her and learning from her. It was so much fun, the best energy. She was really easy to work with.

The video begins with the women's faces masked by smoke. As the video progresses they are featured against several different backgrounds, including: dawn (Beyoncé) and dusk (Shakira); sheets blown in the wind; bamboo covered in yellow orchids; a room with blue neon lighting and Avestan writing on the walls; and finally a background of stormy weather. Slow dance moves and belly dancing are featured heavily throughout the video, with a breakdown after the bridge. The women wear matching hairstyles and black outfits for the entirety of video.
