Perspective.posted 20 Jun 2012, 13:39Most of you are quite nice and I enjoy interacting with you, even in this limited environment. However, I find a few of you less than pleasant with your random strangeness and obvious projection. If I wanted that, I'd meander the city streets aimlessly noting the people not wearing blue tooth head sets but talking to themselves anyway.
I've been on KAT a year, lurking, mostly downloading and reading. Less than a month ago I started to upload. Now I realize it takes time to get ground under you but the lack of seed support bothers me. People download. Sometimes they download quite a bit according the actual stats. But they're not seeding to help keep the torrents alive. That is not good. I'm of the mindset that no one owes you anything in life. So me being me, I took this all in stride. But it makes me rethink my investment. How much time I spend here, the preparation involved, what I'm giving away, what it costs me (I have no "lazy uploads" as I call them and put a lot of effort into them) and whatnot. Maybe I need to cut back or even stop altogether, but we'll try a few more uploads and see how it goes. I like most of you so I wont be deleting my account any time soon. It's a matter of perspective. |

My view is this; after being a member for just on 18 months, I felt it was time I gave a little back to the community, after months of downloading, to do my part.
At the end of the day I will help if I can and I do seed as much as I can after downloading someone else's torrent. I believe sharing is caring and it makes our uploaders feel good about themselves in the long run. I used to share whatever I downloaded on KaZaA (before the owners put Australia on the blocklist), then on WinMX, then LimeWire and FrostWire (with torrent support) and now KAT. I haven't looked back since. I make the effort to share (even a small portion) so should other people.
I encode my own rips from my own DVD collection and I didn't ask for anyone's help in any forum on how to do this or how to upload. I did it all off my own bat based on my p2p filesharing experience and by reading software help files.
If people don't appreciate what I do, they know what they can do. If they do, that's great and it makes me feel warm and fuzzy when praised for making the effort. You got some cool uploads there. I might grab some - put them in my client, once completed, leave them there for a few days, seed as much as possible to help YOU.
.
Just remember though, without the leechers there would be no point in any of us uploading, you should be thanking them
.
Just concentrate on the positives of the site and ignore the bits you dont enjoy, you'll be hard pushed to find anywhere where you like everyone. And those strange people talking to themselves without headsets - that's just because sometimes you need to talk even if there's no-one there to listen. Dont judge us and dont project your own prejudices about what's going on in our heads.

I agree with the basis of this sentiment. There's a real person typing at the keyboard but being online is only part of life. When the computer shuts down or we get up from behind our desks, there's life as it happens to be. I'm not overly invested with online things. Most of my time is spent offline, especially my social life.
Keep your distance, keep your personals private and be respectful to others because you have no idea what their private circumstances are...
I do tend to keep my distance, you're quite right, but I think it's because of the above perspective (online being a part of life, by choice, and not my life in itself) if that makes sense. I don;t give out my personal informational. It;s just not wise. I usually play well with others, although it can be a trick when others choose not to play well with you. But if it gets too annoying, that's what block is for. :)

or the record, I don;t feel unappreciated. I'm not upset. I'm not angry. I was disappointed and quickly got over it. I don't dwell on it. It is what it is.

I didn't download much from KAT. I downloaded to seed other people's things I just never announced it. Now that I upload, I can't download much of anything because I'm seeding (I can barely seed because I need my bandwidth for work and practical purposes). But not everyone's so lucky, and no one should have to choose between eating or reading a book. That's why I upload in this terrible economy that's killing people right now.

Cal me sentimental. ;)

I have every right to judge someone causing trouble as bad news and want to stay away from them. I don't seek them out, they make an effort to bother me. That's not me projecting my prejudices on anyone. Them's just the facts.
Thank you for any seeds. Appreciated as I am just getting started as an uploader. But in regard to leechers, if I didn't upload it they wouldn't have it TO leech. ;)
Have uploaded for 2 years :)

Seriously, thank you for seeding. I'm new and people don't really know to look for what I'm uploading yet.

I'm sticking with practical (cooking), classics (Shakespeare, Poe, Bradbury), pulp fiction (Charlaine Harris and PN Elrod), specialty items (Game of Thrones A Fan's Arsenal Series) and graphic novels (I just uploaded Dark Shadows too oooh aaaah) mostly.
/
Truth is, I have way too much stuff and I'd love to share it if people would only seed enough to allow it.

Please feel free to seed anything new or with a low seed count, and you have my gratitude as it will mean something to the person who finds it to download because you kept it alive.
Would you please host the new Merry Gentry )Complete) for a few weeks? I deleted all the individual series books I was uploading one by one in lieu of this mass upload and I'd like people to be able to find it. Thank you.
Please feel free to seed ANYTHING PN Elrod I've uploaded. She's the best at what she does and worth the space and time.
I enjoy interacting with most people here as well.
Maybe I'll do more. ;)
