Hackitat – A Film About Political Hackingposted 10 Aug 2012, 02:55Hacktivists are pioneers in an age of information who seek to give democracy a level up. They work around the world, 24 hours per day to bring potentially harmful policies to the public eye. They intercept and sometimes counter rights abuses with improved social and communication strategies. Instead of being deterred by the weak points of a given system of government, hacktivists take advantage of any intended or unintended means to achieving a common goal.
Hacktivism is when citizens take responsibility for bringing about social change in a much swifter fashion than merely waiting and hoping for the elected officials and legislation to make an impact. Quite often this includes direct communication to or with the appropriate officials. The overwhelming resistance to oppressive legislature such as SOPA in the US and ACTA in the EU are well known results of hacktivism in action. In the middle east where censorship is sometimes the preferred solution when governments fall out of public favor, hacktivists are the citizens of the world who maintain open lines of communication for those who would otherwise be subject to censorship. Usually this is done without interfering in the local politics of a censored nation. This is all off the top of my head, but the film collective RåFILM lead by mackt have set out to bring you a documentary that brings hacktivists out of the shadows and deliver a closer look at the trend of hacktivism. The film is currently in the production stages seeking a goal of $80,000. Those who wish to show their support can do so at their indiegogo page. Now, go enjoy the trailer! :) |
