2 dead in 3 days, what a City

posted 15 Jun 2012, 21:55
So a second body, and ensuing homicide investigation is started started today in my fair City, with the last one just happening Wednesday. This time the body was bullet riddled and laying in a pool of blood right on the side of the road. No eye witnesses, and the body has yet to be identified, but was listed as male. The last one was a middle aged woman that was bludgeoned to death in an abandoned home. How much do you want to bet both were drug related?
We're considered a metropolitan area, even though with the 4 towns that are grouped right together in two separate Counties, there's only around 120K people. It would probably go up to around 160K if the towns on the outskirts of the two Counties were included. Here it is the middle of June, and we've had approximately 25 homicides already this year.

To put it in perspective, Los Angeles County has approx. 3 million people, and they average around 300 homicides a year. So per capita, Los Angels County would have to have around 700 homicides a year to have the same murder rate as us. More than twice their normal amount. I wish they would post our murder rate on the National stats, because per capita it would probably be the highest in the US, and then maybe people would quit moving here due to the relative low housing costs, and quit adding to the problem.

So how about ya'll lay off of me for the ways that living in a place like this have forced me to adopt. I like breathing, and I like it when my family and friends, most of whom are incapable of defending themselves against a random act of violence, are breathing as well.
Have a nice day all :)

edit, these are half year stats, so if it continued at the same rate for the rest of the year, Los Angeles would actual have to have approx. 1,400 murders to be at the same rate.

I have spent a bit of time in the company of dangerous people, counted drug dealers and bank robbers as friends, (not very good bank robbers, both of the guys I knew got caught) but I just can’t imagine living in an area where you have to deal with the kind of brutal and senseless violence that you find, in a community filled with meth heads. I am not a violent man at all (I do have a temper but I never allow myself to lose it) but I think if I lived where you are, I would be a very different man to the one I am today. A gentle nature is a luxury not everyone can afford.

Canada posted 554 homicides in 2010, and although the stats aren't in for last year, it's reported to have dropped quite a bit. I find the biggest problem is that, in the U.S. there are handguns EVERYWHERE! Yeah, i'm likely to get blasted for that! Up here, you can own one (I own three) but every time I go out to use them, I have to call the Police and tell them I'm transporting them to and from the range, how long I'll be, ETC. As Far as I'm concerned, if they decide to create a law with some teeth, they would almost eliminate it all together. Something like, Commit a crime with a handgun, go directly to JAIL for five years, then get tried wile still in jail for the crime, and sentenced for it. In other words, they pick you up on the streets with a handgun, see ya for five years. But you and I know thay won't, because there's too much money to be made, police, Judges, court officials, Liars (ooops, I spelled that wrong! Maybe not!) etc. We need to put a few more in the ground!

lucky you weren't born in any warzones around the world, just saying there's people who are always more exposed somewhere . That said i live in a big city , got hit by every type of vehicule with wheels , don't need a speicfic weapon or gangbangers to pass away in big city mate. More Seriously if you are not involved in any illegal buisiness the chance of getting hit by a bullet is pretty much same as a plane crash which is lower than car/traffic accidents.

My heart goes out to you Jim, I cant imagine living with the paranoia and fear that must consume you living every day in that sort of environment. But you ask the pertinent question yourself, how many murders are drug related. Take out the dead users, dealers and cooks and how many murders are left every year? I'm pretty sure that out of 120k people you wont find it too difficult to find some good people among them. The difficulty is letting yourself trust them I guess. Sure you can live your life mad at the world, hard as fuck and violently defensive but then you have the danger of a self fulfilling prophecy - treat everyone you meet like a vicious threat and they'll react accordingly.
And I'm not criticising you life choices mate, its your life and your choices to make. Besides, I want you and yours to keep breathing also.wink

after reading this I'm happy to live in Belgium( 11 000 000 people) , in my country the murder rate is 2.1 for every 100 000 citizens ( 3.09 for Brussels, our capital )and even then most of them are not crime related, but the result of domestic violence

i live in South Africa +/- 2hrs drive from Johannesburg and let me tell you we have serious crime in this country when you drive in your car you lock the doors for fear of hijacking when you go to do shopping you hide your cellphone and wallet in your clothes if not they will steal it. In our townships were the less privileged people live they are too afraid to go outside at night because of bandits and thieves that roam on the streets. i have been living here for 26 years and you get accustomed to it you just always have to watch over your shoulder and try to avoid dangerous areas...

what city you at Jim, I hope you wont mind me asking?
if it was drug related that part where the woman was bludgeoned to death may have several angles. maybe drug deal or exchange gone wrong? the attacker obviously knows her and vice versa. seems a personal killing that way. or maybe it was a warning or she crossed a dealer or something. then she paid for it that way. nevertheless i don't condone those type of things. and it is for the lack of a better phrase, menacing to society.
meth is one messed up drug. have an older half brother who used to be a meth head almost all his life. messed up our family. and messed us all up.
I used to stay near sacramento, vacaville then fairfield.... then moved to san jose .. stayed in LA for a very short while by montebello.
But man, Vegas is something different. extremes.. very nice place and very dangerous place at the same time.
