Question 43

Mixtures

I think mixing stuff is interesting, what about if you could do that with animals or whatever.
I like to see a Crocophant some time(elephant/Crocodile)

The bang goes: What mixture would you like to see?

A creature composed of more than one animal is known as a Chimera. There are many examples in mythology and one of the most recognisable is the Griffin which had the head and wings of an eagle and the body of a lion.
Animals of differing species that are closely related do sometimes interbreed creating a hybrid but the offspring are nearly always infertile. I worked for a while as a zoo keeper and we had one of these rare animals which was a cross between a Zebra and a Donkey and this is called a Zedonk (I’m not joking) There are other examples that occur and one that is considerably less silly sounding than the Zedonk is the Liger. (Male Lion breeds with female Tiger) Liger’s are especially impressive because they often grow to be larger than either separate species. Below is a picture of the Liger Hercules and as you can see he is truly colossal in size.

Chimera’s have been created artificially and one of the strangest is the Spider-Goat. (Not to be confused with the Spider-Pig)lol Freckles looks just like an ordinary goat but she contains spider DNA which means that her milk contains spider silk protein. Spider silk (From the Orb Spider) is stronger proportionally than Kevlar (used for bulletproof vests) and of course you cannot farm spiders (they eat each other) so the production of spider silk by this process could well be of benefit, especially in the field of medicine where the silk can be used for ligament repair without creating inflammation.
If I could mix any two animals to produce a mythological creature it would be a horse and a swan, to produce Pegasus.
