Allergies

Some of us are allergic to something. We react differently depending on the allergy and some allergies are worse than others.

what exactly is happening within us when we are exposed to an allergy? well that is a question you might asked yourself if your allergic. Think about it, one single nut can kill you and some people can withstand 500 bee stings :O that is something that i think about.

So: What are you allergic to? and what is happening if you are exposed to what material?

No allergies at all. I was well and truly immunised by playing in the countryside as a small child. I was quite happy to sit for hours with a jug of water playing in the dirt making mud pies and generally making a mess. (Actually I would probably still enjoy it)biggrin
I grew up surrounded by fields and woods and a multitude of animals. It does very often seem to be people who grew up in towns and cities that have allergies, and the modern habit of using sterile wipes for everything is I think making matters worse still by preventing babies and small children from building a normal immune response. Some allergies though are being made worse by pollution in the air and this could be another reason why those from the countryside seem to be less likely to develop allergies. One of the most common allergies is hay fever and contrary to the names suggestion it is not hay but tree pollen that usually causes it.

no allergic to bees but am for everything else plus lots of medicines. skin rash, itchy eyes, can;t breath, snuffleufagus nose. awesomeness decreases by .01%. i hate allergies because if the body releases histamines that are certainly worse than the allergy itself..i mean seriously, wtf body!?!?!?! Just ignore that stuff and stop trying to kill me!!!

Allergic to crab, muscles, cockles, scallops etc. If I get some crab meat mixed into a dish in a restaurant then couple hrs later i'm in the ER/AE being unable to breathe. So I have to be very careful what I eat and I force other people to cater to my shellfish demands.

I have a slight allergy to Coriander (or Cilantro for ya yanks!)
If I consume a large amount my face feels sort numb and tingly.
Not a problem really....unless I have one of those Vietnamese rolls stuffed with handfuls of it...but they are sooooo good.

No allergies whatsoever. However, does being allergic to stupidity count?

I used to be Lactose intolerant, but my dad "cured" that over one summer of force fed dairy products, particularly milk. Hated him that summer, thanked him ever since.biggrin

Not much except the usual pollen and grasses in Spring time, which I can control quite easily.
smile
My ex g/f on the other hand was allergic to many things ... including work! she often said she wasn't a morning person... so she slept all day, or she wouldn't get off her bum and go out (she had no medical reason for it she was just lazy).
lol
(Glad I don't suffer that allergy)

I'm allergic to compazine (an anti-nauseant) which results in anyphalaxis (respiratory shut down) and poppy seeds (hives). Nothing environmental but dust makes me sneeze.......does that count?
