Question 76

posted 12 Jul 2012, 08:38
Hmm

When i was younger, people used to be a little carefull on telling what kind of music they enjoyed.
Whenever a guy said that he liked brittany spears for example, some people always said " what! are fucking gay or something!?

I think that is so rediculus, i don't understand how music can be homosexual. Music stimulates brainwaves, it might be the wrong word but i like to think it is so. Music has nothing to do with ones sexuality at all, it almost pisses me the fuck of when some one says so(that music is gay) it is not
gay.

So i aske you this: What do you think about all this, has some one called you gay for liking a sertain song or group?

[note: no ranting on gay people in this question please, like slanderus words or so.

most 90s pop is awesome! steps, s-club 7 and other stuff of the sort. is almost frowned upon by the youth of today and i have been walking along the street singing some fairly cheesy pops songs and when told "if you dont stop singing that shit round my area i will break you, you &^% &*^%& &^^%" so... i just sang a little bit louder and they walked away

ahh yes, the boy bands for example, backstreet boys and n-sync, they were pretty good but avoided showing that I listened to them as I hang around people that are usually very judgemental.

In my country we have a rather common saying that goes something like "It is no use arguing over tastes", which people usually invoke when someone challenges their likes or dislikes.
To me, musical preferences have nothing to do with sexual orientation. I think that if someone insults you for your choice of music, they do that in order to argue with you or to try to belittle you by insulting your idols. So the music is not at fault, just that the person picking on you is jumping on the whatever he/she can find. Or that is my belief anyway.

Calling someone gay for any reason shows lack of imagination. Calling someone 同性戀者, now that takes imagination!

Meh, they used to do this all the time as most of my favorite genres are rather diverse. If they don't like what I like and deem it appropriate to say as much rudely I just tell em to take my earphones out of their ears or get out of the car. biggrin

I think if you're a 30 years old man and you listen to Justin Beiber's Boyfriend music, you do have a problem...

Someone did call me gay once but I killed him dead & he didn't do it again. Although as he died he said 'I've been killed by a gay urrrggghhh' which I thought was a little inappropriate. I couldn't believe he had the bare face cheek to call me gay on his death bed. I think I've got away with it as it was a few years ago now, but whenever I hear The Pet Shop Boys it always reminds me of that C**T!lol

I don't think there is any real justification in calling someone 'Gay' for liking a particular kind of music, but indeed it happens quite often. It's the "fall-back" retort to something someone doesn't agree with. I have, too, dealt with people who, when I mention that I like musical groups like Freezepop, Schnuffel, and Enya, they look incredulous and immediately question my sexuality (they're only half right).
Besides, with something as subjective as music, it boggles my mind when I comment off-hand that I don't like Elvis, The Beatles, or Pin Floyd, people gawk and ask if I'm insane. No, and I understand why they are popular. They are good musicians and groups, but they aren't to my taste. Same goes for television shows, books, movies, and food...People need to learn to deal with that insecurity of theirs...

Nope.
But was called a moron cause I grew up when reggae could only be gotten via the trojan label by post in the UK.....yup early 70's until Chris Blackwell got Bob Marley on Island records.....that was a game changer and the moron label was dropped as everyone loved Bob.
And just for the hell of it I is gonna get me a spliff and a cold beer then listen to the album Catch a Fire.
