Regret

Most of us have things that we regret in our lives. Sometimes big things that we wish we had done differently, like taking a job offer that would have changed our lives and sometimes something small, like asking a girl or boy out when we were at school.

What do you regret?

Never regret the things you have done. Regret the things you haven't done...

I regret not investing more time into my music, also not going back to uni when I had a chance...too busy partying like an idot because it seemed more important at the time.

Not becoming a monk when the opportunity presented itself. And having my family beat my beliefs out of me while pounding their (neglected) religion into me.
But that's this life. It's only a minor matter here. Who knows what the next one will present. biggrin

I regret many things in my life unfortunately. I regret some of the choices I have made and I regret some of the choices that have been made for me. What I regret more than anything else though are all the moments where I have looked in wonderment upon a thing and I looked alone.

One such moment occurred some years ago when I decided to spend the night sleeping in the centre of a stone circle. (Castlerigg, in the Lake District in Britain)
It was a clear still night and the sky was filled with cold bright stars and I spent the night watching shadows dance on the ring of stones around me. The stone circle sits atop a hill and as the sun rose I witnessed a rolling wall of fog creep slowly along the valley below me. It spilled sluggishly over hedgerows and trees while at my back the slowly rising sun turned the sky to flame and transformed for the briefest of moments the ancient stones around me into pillars of ruby light.

No matter what words I use to try to paint a picture of what I saw it will never be enough and I will carry this single moment, and many others with me for the rest of my life and I regret that no one was with me to share my wonderment.
