The current appearance of Satan takes a lot of cues from Zoroastranism, which itself lent Christianity much more(which also took cues from previous religions, ad infinitum).

The primary 'evil' being in Zoroastranism is one Angra Mainyu, also referred to as Ahriman (no, really). Generally depicted with red skin, a malformed body, 'bat-like' wings, and prominent horns, many theologists believe Ahriman was at least the physical inspiration for Christianity's Satan. Well not trolling here.. on my religion we call it many names:
Satan, diablo, Bad Guy, Bill gates, My mother-in-law.. endless list goes here..

Let me go ahead and give mankind a little head's up so we can finally get this "evolution" thing moving ...
God and Satan are merely two varying aspects of the same Being. Opposites are merely an illusion of the real world of matter, and it doesn't actually exist.
Once we Know, and can fully accept the Truth of who we really are, then this hideous game of Opposites will end.
Collectively we are not yet ready to accept that #1 we are not as Good and potentially Perfect as we would like to think, and #2 we are every bit as Bad and Cruel as we have demonstrated ourselves to potentially Be.
In the End there is no Perfection ... only the Truth

The only difference between a "God" and a "Demon" is who claimed the title first, as far as I'm concerned.

thanks for the answers, but the real evil "Dude" i must say, the christian satan. He really looks uncomfortable to look at, the rest is cute teddy bears that i want to hug and love.
