Andy Griffith Dies at 86

posted 03 Jul 2012, 21:50
Andy Griffith died, the morning of July 3rd, at his home in Dare County, North Carolina, according to WITN News. He was 86 years old.
Griffith was one of television's most popular actors over several decades, best known for his role as Sheriff Andy Taylor in CBS's The Andy Griffith Show, which co-starred his longtime friend Don Knotts and launched the career of Ron Howard. The series ran from 1960 to 1986.
In 1986, Griffith starred in the NBC and ABC show Matlock as Ben Matlock, a lawyer from Georgia. The show was a major success and received multiple Emmy nominations.
Though wildly popular as an actor and instrumental to the success of the shows he starred in, Griffith would only receive one Emmy nomination in his career, for supporting actor in the 1981 TV miniseries Murder in Texas. His final acting appearance was in the 2008 indie movie Play the Game.
Griffith was also a musician and won a Grammy award for his 1997 album "I Love To Tell the Sotry - 25 Timeless Hymns."
R.I.P Andy, You'll be missed!! :(

When your childhood TV favourites begin to pass away it is a solemn reminder of the shifting sands of time.
My condolences to his family & close friends, rest in peace.

Very well put TimeBandits. One of the first movies I remember watching from my childhood was " No time for Sergeants" with my Father.

I loved his character Matlock. He seemed to personify the type of person that Griffith was. He will be missed. :(
