Torrents - Illegal or Free Advertising

posted 13 Jun 2012, 22:44
I believe uploading torrents is something i should get paid for.. WHY? because it's free advertising for artists because 9/10 people wouldn't buy it anyway and myself i have seen stuff on here that i have sampled and went out and bought it!.. Torrents aren't illegal uploading/downloading.. there free advertising (There i said it again)
.
Question - What do you think?

I don't think we should get paid for any torrent but torrents do show how popular something is by how many people downloaded said torrent and how many people still download months after said torrent was uploaded. In my opinion this data shows the true popularity of any given data file let it be a song, artist, movie, software, or even a picture.

there are some who buy a certain movie/music/game but since few of them shared the cost they share the copy.
but yeah at a single point it was bought. so those greedy corporations stop complaining and censoring torrents bec at some point somewhere out there it was bought. lmao.

Torrents themselves are not illegal as a concept, however depending what is actually in the torrent file determines it's legality. As far as a form of advertising goes I'm afraid that argument doesn't stack up, if it did publishers would already be doing it, but as you & I know there's not a lot of profit in giving things away for free.
