AVI or MP4/MKV

As a moderator i get to read a lot of comments and in recent times with all the bullshit of a change over from XviD AVI to the H.264/x264 MP4/MKV has made some interesting reading... mainly whingers who couldn't be bothered to go out and buy a cheap crap Blu-Ray player with a USB port to watch these.. The one thing that sticks in my mind is peeps whinging they have no money but yet! the cheapest computer is worth more and a mobile/cell device is around the same price as a cheap shit Blu-Ray,,,
What's the difference? well i'm not gonna explain different formats but a 550mb AVI is around the same quality as a 350 MP4/MKV...
.
My choice of the two... I really couldn't give a shit because most rips either way are crap, they look good on VLC (which plays both in case you didn't know) but when viewing from a standalone player it looks pixeled to the shithouse really...
.
But i'd rather MP4/MKV for storage size though on the externel Hard drive (which is also the around the same price as a cheap ars import Blu-Ray)

I'm an old dog still struggling to learn new tricks & I love my AVi. I do have a DVD player with USB port, it plays MP3 & AVi but it wont play MP4, I haven't tried MKV yet.
MKV certainly are smaller files leading to quicker DL's & less storage space, I also think they have the edge over MP4. So after all this waffle i'll stop procrastinating, beating about the bush & going round the houses & say 'I haven't got a clue!'biggrin

I watch my d/l through vlc through hdmi to tv with no complaints but me dads multi region dvd player wont play mkv so if i cant get avi for him i convert mkv(cos I love him loveliness)
btw I Love this site too just love me dad more loveliness

I like working avi's, but I also don't mind converting any other format that someone has taken the time to upload. It's free. STOP WHINGING, you 'effers!!!

i liked avi because it was all i knew in the beginning. now im running out of hard drive space and mkv is something ive been looking at because of that reason, only to find out that with mkv...so much more is possible. which brings me to now and going into the future...which is...as long as torrents are around, i could possibly see myself running out of good watchable and entertaining media...to that end...the subtitle support will be great once i dive into the realm of forign subtitled films.....because ive seen it all, and need to keep watching stuff...
that is what i think about when wondering if i should stay with avi, or move forward.

AVI or MKV? Long as they both free on KAT and you can convert them to whatever format floats your boat using a multitude of free programs I dont understand why people even bother complaining about one or the other. However when someone does ask how to play a certain format I wish people would stop being less than helpful and give the advice go and buy a new dvd player, get a new pc or tv and connect the two etc. And unfortunately that seems to be the most common suggestion in our beloved forums of late.

MKV and MP4 are 100x better containers in terms of quality than AVI will ever be, regardless of file size.

I agree and you have to consider major contributors like EZTV that have dropped the .avi format altogether.. smaller files and better quality is what the natural progression is all about

I love .MKV containers (Matroska) because they are largely open source and they are capable of containing so much more that the old and horribly outdated AVI container.
H.264 is also very good, anyone doubting how good it is should try downloading one of YIFY’s uploads and I guarantee you will be blown away by the quality in a really tiny file size.

I gotta say that I prefer AVI even though it is deadsad
I do admit though that MKV is the best...the only thing to do is move with the times

I like avi,it is old. Mp4x26. I dont use mkv. There was a great article on torrent freak about this a month or 2 ago. ill try find it

get a computer and VLC, you dumbfXcks!!
there's no questionning the superiority of mkv rips, so just go with it....
don't you guys have any mean to connect your computers to your TV sets....? c'mon!!
then you can stop bothering bubanee and all the KAT staff!!
