Ok, so every time I'm looking at comments for A/V info I always see "dont work on ps3" and maybe this will help remove some of those in the future.

One fix (I haven't done recently because laptop has hdmi out) is

1. When copying media into usb CHANGE the name to something different i.e. mystiffnu or whatever
same if onto dvd.

2. Disconnect ethernet cable and disable internet connetion in ps3 settings

3. Reset PS3, then load file or dvd.

Let me know if this still works or you found a simpler way.

Also, I'm sure this is in the right place and wanted a lot of people to see it.
If it's in the wrong spot, let me know and I'll move it

Some more info From what I understand, It analyzes the audio to whatever video you're watching and references it over the internet and if it matches to a movie it pops up. Kinda like those apps(like shazam?) that tell you who sings whatever song is playing.

That's far from the truth and I own one. Most things being ripped now won't play on a 360.

MKV, MP4 etc work on the 360 with Windows Media Centre.... but its far from perfect.

My laptop has an HDMI out, so no need for an xbox...
This is just to help out people that do want to watch it through their ps3.
Also, you can just convert the video to something your tv will play since most newer tv's have a usb port and software/hardware to play common video files biggrinbiggrinbiggrin

converting it does little good , it a signal (watermark )hidden in the audio of the picture. this signal tells the ps3 if it is the real deal or a ripped copy. not even changing the audio to any format will change the watermark.so far to date there is no work around or trick that works . i only know of one program that removes it , but it removes it from the blu ray original, and copies it to a blue ray disk - 1 to 1 .my work around is that i do have both consoles to work with. it is true that both cannot read a mkv, but if the mp4 or avi is in the correct formats(codecs) then they will play .

with every update to the ps3 , sony has mad sure that any possible changing of their product is either barred from there site , or cannot play newer blu rays . they have been making the newer movie to require you to update to play it . you may buy their product , but you will never own the product .even some of the newer games are requiring an update from sony to play it , no update, no play.
