I'm just wondering why 99% percent of anime to download only comes in mkv. If I want to download it to a memory stick and watch it on my tv, hardly any devices support mkv format why cant people upload anime in AVI or MP4. Why do uploaders have a hard-on for MKV??

most people got an laptopp and a HDMI cable around, just plugg youre computer into your tv and play anime video on laptop while using tv as screen
also if you use the playstation 3 converter in divX player you can usually play mkv without problem on playstation 3

Because most hardcore anime fans download and watch anime on their PC's or laptops. AVI is still alive and kicking no matter what the elites say. I've downloaded HD AVI,WMV, AND MP4 files that are just as good as HD MKV files. I agree that MKV does give you more options as far as subtitling and stuff. But it all comes down to the encoder. I've downloaded some crappy MKV files as well. It comes down to what you prefer.
I prefer to watch my anime on my TV through my PS3. So I prefer my anime in high quality AVI,WMV, and MP4.Unless your whole source of entertainment and social life is tied to your PC or laptop then MKV is not your only option.
Animesenshi.com has all the recent anime shows for download in AVI,MP4, as well as MKV format. So check them out.

LOL no. AVI is not alive and kicking. It's going the way of teh VHS, very slowly. AVI won't be around much longer as it is.

I prefer MKV files myself just for the high quality. That Deal Extreme looks pretty awesome but if you all ready have hdmi out put on your computer or even a WiFi TV you can watch MKV files with VLC media player. The best media player on the market and its free, if you download it off the web make sure to decline and uncheck all the garbage software it offers.

VLC isn't the best. I use TCMP and WMP and get the same results or even better than VLC.

vlc is the one that naturally comes with the hugest amount of codecs and ability to play everything, but if you take some time to download codecs for media player or pay for an even stronger player vlc is beaten easily
if you play on a computer with small screen or resolution like a laptopp vlc usually starts to lagg quite a bit when you play 1080p vids, it mighht even crash if you try to jump in the movie, depends some on how strong the computer is aswell
i accually prefer wmp right now, after i got the k lite codec pack for wmp, it can even play ogm files (just a tipp for everyone )
