At a Theater in Aurora, Colorado there are reports of a mass shooting during the midnight premiere of the Batman film "The Dark Knight Rises". Reports so far say 14 are confirmed dead and up to 20 injured.

What is the USA coming to? Why is our Country so violent? What will be next, metal detectors at movie theaters?

I am seriously angry about this. You can't feel safe anywhere anymore.

Anyone else have thoughts on this?

For those who may not know / haven't went to the links yet (I have not), Jessica Redfield was a former intern for one of Denver's local new networks aspiring to be a sports broadcaster & particularly NHL / hockey.

"Movie doesn't start for 20 minutes" was her last tweet / the tweet listed above.

She is one of the ones who died from the shooting
sad

Also... Guns don't kill people, people kill people.

sorry mate to disagree but people caring guns kills people and that's the bottom of the line if you don't have gun you will not kill anyone and if nobody caries a gun nobody dies from gun shooting for no reason wink
Guns don’t kill people, people kill people – WHAT BULLS**T
I can’t believe that otherwise intelligent and helpful community would agree with this lobotomized statement! This is SOOOO retarded! sad
People WITH GUNS kill people and please don’t try to sell me gasoline, knife etc. stories. Give maniacs easy means to instant fame and the effect is what you have…
Change your archaic laws and join the rest of the civilized world to the 21 century - BAN GUNS - YOU DON’T NEED THEM, YOU JUST DON'T!

So you mean to tell me guns walk themselves into theaters wearing full body armor and shot dead 12 people? OR they walk into a school and do the same? Those guns walk around and shot innocent people? Do these guns auto load themselves, set aim and fire all on thier own? NO they don't. It takes a person to do all those and to pull the trigger. Until that gun is in someones hand, they are as harmless as toys.
Why are people so blatantly arguing about this. People are the reason why guns hurt people bot the gun. People pull the trigger and fire on people.

There will always be dangerous people; angry people and unhappy people in any society. Where a normal (as in, not in USA) argument normally ends up in a fist fight and a black eye - guns bring it to another level. If you do a quick cost benefit analysis - how often do you need a gun to fight off a criminal; and how often does that gun caused angry people to kill each other - it is clear that having more rights is not always a good thing.
If you want to argue that guns don't kill people; we can say that nuclear weapon don't kill people. Until someone detonate it, it is just a big, expensive, toy. Why don't we give everyone a right to carry dirty bomb anywhere they go (concealed nuclear license)? After all they are just toys, unless "bad" people use it for "bad" purpose, right?

I hate that argument tbh. Nukes are not the same as guns. Nukes can go off on their own and. You miss the point of what I said.

Ummm that's already what happens in the middle east. I'm pretty sure being a suicide bomber is illegal, and yet it still happens more often than people would like. Having a gun is not the only way to kill a lot of people.

Like you say, do a quick cost benefit. How many times has a gun owner prevented their deaths and the deaths of others, which you'll hardly hear about because that doesn't make national news. Also how many gun owners didn't go shooting people today versus that did?

What irritates me about this stuff? Whenever something tragic like this happens, is how much attention they give the event, but specifically, the freaks that do this stuff. That's just what they want, is to get attention, and we give it to them, broadcasting their picture, explaining every detail of their sick plans to the whole world. People do this stuff for attention. There's a reason he didn't kill himself, because he wanted to see what he did and himself all over the media. Explain the event, what happened, the people who SAVED lives, and move on to the next story.

As far as people who are upset over gun laws, I say people can have guns. But for hunting, target practice, etc. Not semi automatic guns with bullets that are capable of going through a concrete wall. Who needs stuff like that anyway? Guns don't promote violence by any means, but they certainly provide an easy path to it. If someone is really motivated to do something like this, they will just find a different way to do it without using firearms.

Again I agree with you, Pringles. A piece is a stagnant object, incapable of doing any harm, until picked up by a person. it's the up to that person what the weapon does.
I have a bumper sticker: "When guns are outlawed, only outlaws will have guns".

Both sides of this are wrong. I disagree with any conceal and carry laws, because a gun is basically meant for hunting and target practice. There is no use in carrying around a pistol when you go grocery shopping. But guns should not be outlawed completely. People should still be able to use guns for the aforementioned hunting, target practice, home defense, etc. Conceal and carry laws make people want to justify carrying a weapon, and they are quick to want to use it in situations.

Not always true. Look at Texas for example. They have the most lenient gun laws in the lower 48 states. Rarely are guns used by those that have conceal/carry. It's all about the people tbh. I want a handgun so I can carry with me when I go for drives by myself or trips. Will I use it, who knows. It's more about knowing you can defend yourself and others than it is to go out and want to shoot someone.

Honestly, you Americans spouting diatribe like "more guns is the solution!" is insane.
Availability of firearms is the medium, mass murder is a symptom and it appears that social sickness is the cause. All societies have sickness, but Americans have more firearms than any other country (save Afghanistan et al.)
Remove the medium and you have something to work with.

I think Hammy summarized it very well.. and it is not "non americans talkin smack" (as someone stated) it is "no guns talking smack!". I'm amazed that people can suggest more guns as a solution to tragedies like this one.
We don't have these kind of shootings in Sweden... and it's not because we are so friendly but because we don't have guns/weapons (the way Americans have).

But this is just the way I think about it...
