Mkv-ts question30 July 2012, 07:37 (9 months ago)
Hi!
I have a problem.i have recently recorded the Olympic games opening ceremony from my tv in .ts format ! The size of which is 13,5 gb!!! But the resolution is 1080p.i have heard that the .mkv format is the same quality (resolution) and much smaller.is this right??IS there any programm to convert it ? Also I have an other problem.my uploads have only 1-3 seeds and 125 leeches and the downloaders are complaint about the download speed! What is wrong about it because there is a lot of peers!and in the μtorrent I can't see the downloading speed of them .that's because I am the uploaded?? Thanks in advance. ;) .mkv is just a container as is .ts. It all depends on what the video codecis in the .ts file you saved.
A very very good universal program that will convert just about anything imaginable and is fairly easy to use is Any Video Converter Ultimate. QAnd converting using the x264 algorithm usually usually produces the best results for HiDef compression. But you really need to study up on all the x264 parameters such as sub-picture motion estimation, referance frames, b frames, merrange, dblock, motion estimation. Then you need to put in the time experimenting to see what yields the best results with your rig and how much time you are willing to put towards it. If you want true HiDef transcodes you just have to do your homework. .ts is a dvd format and are massive compared to most other files. Try Xilisofts HD video converter. Actually .ts is Transport Stream and is an open ended container that is usually used for live broadcasts. TS is basically the same as MP2 (it's MP2 formatted for broadcast). MKV supports H.264 (current standard) whereas TS only supports H.222 (weaker compression). Making the file smaller may result in better file size, but you'll most certainly lose quality in the transcode. I'd do it a couple of times at different setting until you find a happy medium. That's what most of us do anyways.
Some easy trancoding tools are Freemake (free), AVS Tools (not free), and Handbrake (free). Last edited by Mertado3201, 9 months ago TS only supports H.222 (weaker compression). This used to be tru but not anymore. .ts can contain h263 and h264 video also. HDTV is h264.ts Last edited by Wldsthrnboy6937, 9 months ago |
