why is it that soo many users feel the need to post comments on fake torrents saying fake. there is a button at the top of the screen it says report, if a torrent is fake report it, dont thumbs down or comment on it as mods and staff look at this as rep abuse. i feel we have a ton of users that need to read the kat rules.
kat rules It's been stressed SOOOOO many times: the comments in the torrents are for A/V and maybe a short "good", or "blurry", or "jumps". NOTHING else! If the torrent is fake, report it! Don't just comment in the torrent, it doesn't do any good there. If you find a fake torrent. Report it with reason why it's fake. Don't give feedback or comments. Reason why it's like that is because you gain +1 rep from reporting and +1 from feedback and +1 for comment. Doing "3 reports" on torrent (reporting it as fake, comment it's a fake and giving it a thumbs down because it's fake). When you report a torrent it says it's reported. capiche? ![]() 30 replies before

lol...me and fakekiller exchanged a few pm's about this yesterday, i d/l'ed a torrent that was password protected and reported it, it wasn't removed straight away (maybe a Mod was d/l'ing it to check)...in the mean time i gave it a thumbs down and left a comment saying it was password protected so other users wouldn't waste their time and bandwidth. now i won't go into details
but fakekiller thought it was rep abuse, i disagreed. i had d/l'ed that torrent so i thought i should be able to comment on it...it's not the 1st time i've done that and i'm sure i'm not the only one, i'm only trying to stop people from d/l'ing a fake ![]() I've done that before when the reported torrent wasn't deleted straight away. No way is it rep abuse. Its not like we're doing it loads of times a day or whatever. Its a very rare occurance.

And you even posted a link. But there is nothing about it in the rules. There is hardly a more definite and indisputable statement about the quality of a torrent than the fact that it is fake. If the people that run the site don't want it reported in the comments, that's perfectly fine. I have no problem with that. But you made a thread about not following rules that aren't really rules. You can't really blame anybody for not knowing about it. I admit I've been guilty of posting fake on comments but I do report them.
The reason I put the comments was to warn others because users don't always look to see if the report has been clicked. Also on the home page you can hover over comments & read the latest comments immediately without opening another page. I have been here a little while now & don't fully understand the rep system, so newer users don't stand a chance. Only recently a friend mentioned rep abuse to me so I no longer comment, just report. Spare a thought for less experienced users, If we were all experts there would be no need for Mods etc. ![]() Last edited by TimeBandits15738, 8 months ago Sizzler9211
to say commenting on a fake torrent is rep abuse doesn't seem to make sense anyway...it was only a few days ago we were told rep means nothing on KAT, it's just a number, so really theres no such thing as rep abuse!
The fact that we can all post a comment anywhere now, even just a smiley and get +1 is ludicrous. Wheres the rep getting earned with this set up?

Last edited by ausy26645, 8 months ago i dont mind a comment saying "its fake dont bother" because it has been downloaded and somebody is describing the quality of the torrent. those are the rules but i suppose actively looking for fakes to comment and report is taking it a little too far. maybe this all needs to be looked at because if we are only supposed to comment on the quality of the torrent and then go ahead and tell someone off for giving us exactly that then its a bit wrong
just my 2 cents (if you can follow my train of thought lol) A bump and a comment:
I've taken to reporting fakes as A) I have the time and bandwidth to spare. B) I see it as a way of contributing to KAT and the P2P community in general. It's a bit like picking up stray litter and identifying repeat litter-louts. I'm active on other P2P private-sites that don't suffer fakes at all, so KAT is the only place were I need to report bad uploads. I resent the implication that by providing helpful feedback to other KAT users, registered or not, that I'm labelled as a "bad" member assumed to be seeking "rep-points", if that were the case I have the IQ to do so in a way that does not attract adverse attention and gathers more points in a systematic way that far exceeds the few points gained from warning others of bad or potentially bad torrents before those torrents get deleted. I feel it worthwhile that a member should be "rewarded" for identifying and reporting bad-torrents/uploaders, I would guess that only a few percent of the total registered and unregistered users bother to do so. As for the rep-points associated with any comment left on the torrent surely those points could disappear when the fake-torrent is deleted. Is that impossible to achieve? That keeps those that think points are sacred happy by not adding to the reporter's rep-score once the bad-torrent is deleted and provides useful information to people looking at the bad-torrent prior to it's deletion that it is suspect. Keep the existing -2 for removal of false/mistaken comments, all but the mega-elite will make a mistake from time to time and that feed-back can be useful in honing one's fake-spotting-skills. I welcome when a torrent-mod takes the time to message me back where I have made a mistaken report, it aids my education. As the objective to leaving such a comment after reporting a torrent is to warn others, some of who clearly have downloaded/installed infected torrents -> suffered from trojans etc. and after cleaning their PC will recall where the infection came from! What is better? A little advance warning that the torrent they are considering downloading is potentially bad using a comment pop-up that is written in plain English or ensuring that no member gets a +1 point for their effort? Some of my encounters with one member of moderating staff here has been poor, the person seems inarticulate and completely unable to explain the nature of what re-abuse is and assumes that gaining a few "extra" points is a heinous crime. (at the time I was unaware of this whole points "issue") Before this week I had not considered looking in the community-forum as there is a lot of babble here spread across so many pages it is not worth reading (sorry but that is my POV), this thread seems worth adding to. I would assume that this whole issue about points for comments/reports/abuse was established some time ago - I think that the logic needs to be re-assessed and revised to embrace the common objective of identifying/removing bad-torrents/up-loaders and those that support them and rewarding those that seek out the bad and communicate that to the staff and other members and users of KAT. ![]() BTW - I moderate on a small social networking site so I do know the difference between good mods and those on a power-trip.
