How can I copy a DVD to a AVI or MP4 to one continuous file28 May 2012, 11:53 (11 months ago)
Just curious what software professional users use to make copies of DVDs into one continuous file. I have tried handbrake. I copied the file and converted it to mp4. I could see the video working on my computer but when I connected my TV up to via LAN , I could play the file but it kept starting and stopping but on the computer the file looked fine. I would prefer to convert the VOB to DIVx , but as I keep saying in one continous file. How do you do this? What programs are professional users doing this with?

For 1:1 quality copy of the movie there is always MakeMKV, that even has some ability to crack protections. Just open up the dvd/bd and select which audio and subs you want to copy with the video. Then maybe fix it up a bit with MKVToolnix, like removing flags to have your software-/player do all of that.
- If you want to change subtitle clut (when source is dvd), then copy the dvd with AnyDVD (or something like it) to harddrive in folder-format. "Open full domain" with DVDSubEdit and make the changes, click apply to all, and then save it. After this, open it up with MakeMKV and do as described above. - ps. That your movies keeps stopping might have something to do with the network setup. Looks to me like some sort of connection timeout. Anyhow, this was the 1:1 tip but GL whatever you choose to do :) JanOve3375

I just created a DVD to AVI file using freemake. Other user recommended it and it done the Job. One continuous AVI it worked on my TV via LAN now I just have to play with the setting to make it 852x480 for a 42' Plasma. Thanks for your suggestions I may right those programs anyway just to see if there is a way to speed up the process.

Just a thought. If you continue to have trouble, try putting one of the "problem".avi files on a usb memory stick and then play the movie from the USB memory stick. Thats great, because research shows that network-related problems makes men go bald.... :) - MakeMKV takes as long as it takes your pc to copy (selected parts of) a dvd/bd to harddrive. So that is copied, remuxed, and watching it in your sofa within 10 minutes I guess. Something like that. - Let software do all upscale, never hardcode that. Thanks Paulie, am trying out freemake , it seems to be working fine. I just hope when it's finished that I can view the file without it stopping. This is a problem I had after using handbrake. Thanks , I'll let you know how I went with freemake before I try WinAvi
It also very good for converting basically every file type from one to another especially avi to vob if freemake does not work give Win AVI a go mate
