Hiya everyone,
I'm taking a trip to Europe starting Apr 2nd 2012. I'm starting out in Athens, Greece, then will be traveling to many other countries. Most likely are Italy, France, Spain, Switzerland, Germany, Netherlands, England, Scotland, and Ireland. I may even get up to Finland, Norway and Sweden, but gonna have to see how much money I have left at that point. haha. If you wanna hang out, have a beer, lemme know. I'll be doing most of my traveling by EuRail, and will be staying in major cities, but may pass through your town. I'll be doing most of this in 2 months or so, and want to stay in Ireland for awhile after that. I'll be trying to find a place in County Clare, near Doolin and would definitely love to travel and visit while I'm there. SK 220 replies before
I left yesterday on a 7:25 am train starting for dublin. 3 trains, 2 taxis, a ferry and a bus later I get into Dublin at around 10 pm. Needless to say, I was quite tired. I got up this morning (technically, it was still morning), got stirring around then texted The Show about meeting up. Before we did, I took the tour of the Guinness Storehouse. Magnificent place, as you would suppose, considering they brew the finest beer known to man........heh heh. Anyway, here are a few pics.
![]() Here's one that shows the original copy of the 9000 (yes, that's NINE TH0USAND) year lease that Arthur Guinness negotiated. Talk about taking the long view of things. ![]() And here are a VERY few of the photos I took inside the Storehouse. This is something I recommend that you do for yourself. For one thing, a photo of a Guinness isn't nearly as satisfying as the real thing, and in Ireland, Guinness really does taste even better. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() wrong image wrong image I'm afraid I was a terrible disappointment to The Show. He has exams this week, so we were only able to meet up in the early afternoon. He is a funny, personable, and extremely intelligent person, and I was just BLAH! My only excuse is that I'm REALLY tired, and beginning to be just a bit worn down from all the travels. So, my deepest apologies to The Show for my lackluster showing today. We did have a pint before parting ways, and he invited me to come back and do it again if I stay any length of time in Ireland, as I'm hoping to do. Regardless, allow me to introduce The Show! wrong image I told him I was expecting a Jim Morrison lookalike, from his avatar, lol. wrong image I'm back at the hotel now, and I'm just gonna kick back, watch a movie or something, and take it easy. I'm tired. lol. If I get out tonight, I'll try to get a few photos..............of the pretty barmaids. lol Intelligent? No, definitely not...
It was great to meet up with S_k, and hopefully we will get to go on a proper session before you have to leave. S_k is a very nice guy with loads of interesting stories, unfortunately I'm in the middle of exams so could only meet for a quick pint, but it was a tasty one, Nearys on Chatham st does a fine pint. I forgot to mention above that The Show told mentioned a very funny fact about the banning of smoking in the pubs of Ireland. I'm going to leave it up to him to post the story here. I will say, however, that it doesn't surprise me one bit! ![]() ![]() ![]() He he he, the story goes: When the smoking ban was introduced in 2003 the authorities got more than they bargained for. A pub or nightclub filled with cigarette smoke masks a lot of smells. After the introduction of the ban, for the next few months the only smell that you could get in pubs and clubs was the smell of farts!! It was pretty horrendous. I dont really smell it anymore, i'm not sure if thats because they have done something about it or I have gotten so used to the smell that I dont notice it anymore!! its amazing what the smokes covered up! |

i`m sure he met back up with sarah when you left in secret.
