By trade I'm a journeyman HVAC Tech, but in '04 I was sidelined by an auto accident, herniated Discs in my neck, 2 yrs later(06) I Had to have a Total left hip replacement and have been out of work for several years due to physical limitations/ Chronic pain, muscle spasms -which I Occasionally consume MMj (Certified Cardholder)for my body. It's kinda hard to find a job when a person has been out of work for a couple years, is over 50 and is required to be drug tested and is refused employment because they are using a Prescription. Even though I have 3 yrs of college education, excelled in any area I worked in, it's ridiculous how hard it is to get a job these days.. oh, by the way I actually really like Repairing Things ( I was a consumer electronics tech for 10 years Too.) If I could only find somewhere that could use my valuable talents...- I'm going to apply at a call center tomorrow, cause I need to pay my rent, wish me luck.wink

For one thing, if you are NOT employed, you have (I suppose) more time to spend hanging out in a forum talking. For another, if YOU have not had cancer, count your blessings! The condition is on the increase everywhere, and it is NO FUN. But medical treatment has advanced greatly, so at least short term survival chances are much better than they once were.
But the thing is, we here in the USA are living in a country with a failing economy, so various types of unemployment are more the rule than the exception in this country now. In Nevada, the unemployment rate is officially over 10% but unofficially closer to 30%. And I believe that may be true in a lot of places in this country.
SO it really is NOT so amazing that so many of us are unemployed! It's MORE amazing that any of us ARE employed! Sigh.... saddizzydizzy

Well, I've been told that "some people" make good money as pan-handlers. I was really *boggled* to hear that said - but some people do labor under the delusion that beggars are out there making a "killing" on every street corner, and that is why you should never give a beggar money! I have often given beggars coin or a dollar here and there, because I don't believe a person who looked starved to death with hollow eyes, and filthy rags is "making a killing" of anything but him/herself. And I do believe that people who tell you not to be charitable are callous and cruel (and may well yet get a lesson in life they won't forget, and may not be able to live through). So lurk away, Togapie, you have my heartfelt sympathy. smile

This is totally off topic, but WHY oh WHY are those horrid advertising links appearing on top of so many words in our forum comments lately? Whose idea was THAT? And can somebody PLEASE TAKE THAT AWAY! It's awful to brush over a comment and get snagged by those obnoxious advertising pop-ups! I HATE IT. Or is this something in my own Google Browser that I have to find a way to turn off! YUCK!
