At a Theater in Aurora, Colorado there are reports of a mass shooting during the midnight premiere of the Batman film "The Dark Knight Rises". Reports so far say 14 are confirmed dead and up to 20 injured.

What is the USA coming to? Why is our Country so violent? What will be next, metal detectors at movie theaters?

I am seriously angry about this. You can't feel safe anywhere anymore.

Anyone else have thoughts on this?

People also use heroin why don't you rationalize legalization?

sorry but not the best of analogies. Heroin is inherently destructive and serves no purpose.
guns are a crime deterrent (especially for many small business owners across USA) and for many Americans who go hunting, are a source of food and livelihood.

Now your being pedantic.
Common what is BAD is BAD and there is NO grey zone, no maybe. Standing by and just watching gun related crimes and rationalizing if they need to do something about guns costs the US dearly in lives of innocents.

40,000 plus Americans die in traffic related accidents every year.dizzy

I'm a tad neurotic so I don't drive. I'm probably one of the few smart people who feel uncomfortable doing so...so I stay off the roads. An accident is one thing. Cold blooded murder is another though.

if the victims of the shooting were carrying guns, the situation wouldn't have escalated as much.
Criminals always get guns one way or the other. Stopping regular people from owning guns puts them at the mercy of fate.
Cowards like the shooter wouldn't have the balls to do what they do if they know their would be victims are likely armed.
Think about it.

Everyone having guns wouldn't have escalated the situation? Sure...a huge firefight, which would probably kill more people in the crossfire, and cause a HUGE media event. Yeah, that's not an escalated situation....

metal detectors wouldnt have done much, i heard he bought a ticket, went into the theater, propped open the emergency exit, suited up, then started shooting...also, im seeing people are having the age old gun control debate. im not going to go into that but in this situation i dont think it would have mattered if guns were more controlled in america. the dude had bombs and tripwire and other explosives in his apartment...even if he couldnt get his hands on an assault rifle dont you think he would of used his arsenal of explosives? i hate to say it, but it could have been worse. and before we go blaming his parents, friends, teachers, whoever, as far as i know no one really could have done anything. this guy was a grad student who came to the state to get a phd. not some crazy redneck. no one could have known what was going on in this guys head or what he was capable of. this is a tragedy no doubt and i feel for the victims and their families. but i just hate when something like this happens and people instead of feeling sad and grieving for the victims get angry start playing the blame game. when there is really only one guy at fault. im not saying when something like this happens we shouldnt change things to prevent something like this in the future. im only saying what "could have" been done doesnt matter. it happened, so now we decide where to go from here.

When you hit the Emergency Exit an alarm goes off. It also doesn't make sense how they're saying he kicked in the Emergency Exit in other reports. Every Emergency Exit I've seen swings out..not in. You can't kick in a door that swings outward.

You didn't read my comment.
I was speaking of guns as a deterrent.
Psychopaths feed on the helplessness of others.
And you're assuming too much. A huge firefight may be probable.
What's also probable is a quick and efficient end to a situation.

Guns are not destructive and they serve such a noble purpose!

Small business owners should hire security, install cameras and let the police handle the rest.
Food - RIDICULOUS!

No,you didn't because punks always get hold of drugs & guns.
Guns are never going to go away.
You can come up with various hypothetical situations that demonize gun ownership but the fact remains that serial killers, gangs, mafias, various criminal elements will always have guns and innocent people will remain totally dependent on law enforcement. if young women walking home late, alone were to carry firearms, rape statistics would dwindle.
If responsible teachers had firearms, Columbine style shootings would become unheard of.
