Greetings fellow KAT-torians

I request your assistance.
Now here's the situation, I have several devices, assigned specific ip addresses through out the household.
How can I best watch what traffic is going through where? i.e. Who visits what and when..
Now, I understand this can be accomplished via a packet tracer and intercepting each packet an deciphering each one etc.. (or something along those lines..)
But is there a program that simplifies the process?
I have a Belkin Wireless ADSL2+ Modem with Wireless G Plus MIMO Router

I found a similar request on Tonshardware and there are some useful links to apps etc that may be of interest to do what you wish
http://www.tomshardware.com/forum/25161-43-monitoring-traffic-wireless-router
I myself have never done what you wish to do but i think some of the apps mentioned in the thread may be well suited to your needs.
If you try one or two post back as the community here will almost certainly have users that have used the apps and can give more direct input.
Good luck.

Hi There

First of, why do you want to do this?

Best way is to run Untangle FREE on an old PC

For a FREE software version you will need to Google it

Well, I just like knowing what's going on within my network. I was trying to work out a way to use the same system used at my school which was called WinGate(I think). Which required us to login to our web services. However, to get that technical for a house network would be pointless as I'd probably need to go out and buy a server and set it up, etc....
The main reason I want to know, is because my girlfriends brother goes onto, shall we say, "certain" sites. [even though I did at that age, isn't the point] I want to basically stop that. I can't block it per say, because it could be on the iPod or the PSP... etc..
And then, blocking each site or sites port is just ridiculous again because, EVERYONE knows there's just too many out there.
However, that's not really the only reason, I just want to be aware of EVERYTHING that happens within my own network.
Lastly, thanks johnno23. I'll check them out now

Hi There

Now that you've explained it more I think OpenDNS is a good bet or maybe content filtering on your router if it supports it.

Also have a look at K9 from Blue Coat which is another excellent FREE web content filtering app

Now, I have OpenDNS, set to Medium Web Content Filtering. Yet I did a quick test on some sites, and http://www.xhamster.com doesn't get blocked....?
Perhaps OpenDNS aren't aware of this site yet?..
Also I'll try K9.
I'll also trying WireShark at the moment and am slowly getting my head around it. lol

Great advice so far. There are litterally hundreds of possible solutions, depending on your specific goals. Honestly, the easiest way to know what is going on with your network is to limit access to whatever you deem acceptable. There are many ways to monitor the traffic on your network, but most of them require a specific knowledge base and a lot of time (or money.) I recently discovered that my neighboor was using my wifi. I only had it protected with wep encryption, but he still had to "break" in to use it. Instead of cutting him off, I made it so that every website he visited redirected him to gay porn. He doesn't use my internet anymore.
