I'm a weirdo and strange and unexplicable events are regurlarly happening in my house, The latest WTF? event is now occuring with my on/off button defective equipped HDD. I'm able to make it work by htting it violently (the metal case is really thick so I cannot kill it for good) and it start working and eventually stops.

But here's the strange part: now it began to start, stop by itself. So again, another WTF event happens. Maybe ypu can come with a logical explanation. If so, I'll be happy!

I never had one hallucination in my life. It is really happening.

It could be connection problems within the drive?

It'a the only rationnal explanation I found but if I want it to start working, I cannot just softlyplay with the damn idiot button, I have to hit it like a drum and in no time it starts so how can it start by itself since I have to pound it?

Did you ever think of changing the switch out?

I am assuming it is powered by the usb. Just open the case and bypass the on/off switch. It is only a power saving device anyway.

But quit banging it unless you want to loose all the data on it. No matter how thick the case is, unless it is a solid state drive, it has little feather like arms that that extend out and read the data something like a record player needle. There are anywhere from 3 to 6 or more of these and they are quite delicate. Even in the portable drives. All it takes is one to get miss aligned and stop the armature from extending and the drive will no longer function.

This drive is either external or interna;, it's was made so that you either unscrew thee 10000000000 screws or make it work withthe usb cable and plug the adapter so it I left it as ia

Forgot to mention if you decide to install it inside the cpu, you don't need the usb cable as from what I remember, there's is the little cable to plug as a master or slave
