We use DivXPro with the "home theatre" profile to reduce file sizes and retain most of the quality- there is virtually no loss after recoding.

Where possible and within time constraints we will use VirtualDub and the delogo filter to remove pesky station logos - if it hasn't been done you can download them here ...
