if the above advice does`nt work it`s most likely the drive was stolen. check in the front of the pc to see if there is a big rectangular hole.
![]() . i stole my friends once and forgot i did it... i only remembered what i did when he phoned and asked for help editing his registry. ![]() did not touch the drive at all
How old is the pc? How often do you use the dvd drive? When the drive was still showing up on your pc, did you have trouble loading discs sometimes? Does the drive open right away everytime you hit the button? Does the drive light blink on and off for a long time before loading the disk?

about 3 years old about 2 times a week and yes it opens up every time
Have you moved the pc recently? It's possible that one of the connections have come loose, if so. I still think the problem is that the drive is going bad. 3-4 years is about all the life I've ever gotten out of one before needing to change it, but I use mine to watch movies and to burn them, so I can't be absolutely positive that this is what's wrong with yours. You can find one pretty cheap online or at local chain stores. And changing one is pretty simple too. If you have another pc with a known good drive, you might try swapping yours out for it, if only to test the drive on both pc's. If the new one works on yours, and the old one doesn't work on the other pc, then you know you need another drive.
