Hello all, I do hope I'm posting in the right place.
A lot of movie downloads now are AC3 for sound. I watch my movies on a usb drive plugged into my dvd player, so I can watch on a decent screen.
I can't get sound with AC3, unless I burn to disc using ConvertXtodvd. That's a lot of discs for movies I might not want to keep. Is there a program I could use to convert so I have sound, but still have it in avi format?
Many thanks.

use total Video converter HD you can find it here on KAT i use it so i can play it only Divx player
Hi, thanks for replying. Does that converter still leave it in avi format? I checked it out but couldn't discover if it did. If it's to burn to disc, I can use convertxtodvd. Cheers.

Thanks, but I don't need an audio codec. It plays fine on the laptop. Failing that vlc handles everything else.
I am trying to play movies from a usb drive plugged into my Blu-ray/home theatre rather than burn them to discs.

Try Freemake. Re-encode your movie file (video format doesn't matter), but change the audio to MP3 (Click the Edit Preset button (the blue cog) before you hit the Convert button). See if your home theater hardware supports MP3 or AAC instead of AC3.
Sounds like ConvertXtoDVD is doing this conversion for you. I don't know what it's defaults are as I don't use it regularly enough to have it installed.

Freemake
Handbrake is another excellent tool, but a touch more difficult to use.

Brilliant! Thank you Mertado3158 biggrin I really appreciate this. If that program doesn't work, I can't imagine anything else would.
Cheers! biggrin
