HOW MANY SQUARES?

How many can you see in this ... keep seeing it so thought I would share it with my KAT Family.

1²+2²+3²+4²=30 (Main squares)
2*(1²+2²)=10 (For two smaller squares on middle part)
30+10=40

I counted and it seemed pretty obvious that there were 40.
