Try Dear Esther. It's not so much a game but a great narrative experience. I won't ruin the mystery so download it and enjoy it. Also, L.A. Noire has a great storyline plus great gameplay. Bastion, Dragon Age: Origins, and all 3 Mass Effect games also have great storylines.

S.t.a.l.k.e.r has a good story and is quite challenging.

Dude, Half Life 2 was one of the best games of the past generation. Borin? Maybe in some places but regarding narrative fps games it's one of the best.
