Why NARUTO???

Can someone persuade me into watching Naruto. I want to watch a great Anime that will keep me hooked and wanting for more, something that will give withdrawal symptoms when it finishes ;) .

I want to know, does Naruto have a lot of filler episodes??? You know like DBZ.
Also why such a huge fan following, is it good?? I somehow thought that this show just has mindless fighting and wanting to become stronger and stuff like DBZ, with little or no plot at all.

So,why watch it when the story is almost the same as DBZ ,only difference being that these guys are ninjas .

Is it something worth watching? Also is Naruto childish like DragonBall??? I understand that Naruto Shippuden has an older Naruto, but do I need to watch the previous 220 episodes of Naruto before Shippuden?

I've seen great Anime and they have one thing in common, more plot less fillers(thereby reducing the no. of episodes to at most 50-80).
I'm sorry for the constant comparison with DB and DBZ,it is just so similar.

*edit
Thank you everybody for the replies and suggestions. I saw the 1st episode of Naruto, found it somehow juvenile for my taste;and I was right about the whole Naruto-DB/DBZ hypothesis, they seem extremely similar in storyline.

Yes, bleach.
But,it's just like any American TV show with stand-alone episodes.
I prefer a continuous storyline, where the previous and succeeding episodes are relevant to each other and important for the story to progress.

I guess it's because of the story. Well probably his journey has a little more sense than the other. DBZ is ancient. Naruto is modern. Naruto is one of the leading anime being read and watch. Try some 10-20 episodes. Some say, to see is to believe. smile

It is pretty similar to DBZ where the protagonist branded as a low level nothing goes to beat all odds and it is plagued by a ridiculous amount of filler which can be skipped without missing out on the main storyline.

You should still try it though if not for all the crazy, unpredictable, suprisingly intelligent fight sequences that never gets old and the pletora of secret ninja techniques that just when you think youve seen it all, some old dude comes in with space time jutsu and before you can finish your hand signs you find yourself in another dimension, the plot is pretty good too, which in my opinion justifies all the fillers, just skip them because they are pretty awful.

Naruto is good even with the fillers. The fillers for the most part add to the story. I would recommend watching Naruto then watching Naruto Shippuden.
