How much hard disk space do you have on your htpc? How much data do you have? go to this post
views: 244 My HTPC has a recently installed Seagate 2TB HDD, and what I like about it, is its energy efficient. It uses 40% less energy than your run of the mill HDD, and its silent, but without compromising data transfer capability.
Currently my /home directory only has about 14GB of data in it, due to the fact that its running a freshly installed Linux that I still need to work on a bit. Friday, 17 May 2013 20:14, 5 days ago

And I would like to make one final point....
If you think that Chrome and Firefox cannot block ads and popups, then you clearly have not used Adblock plus. Iv been using it for years and never once have I had a single popup or unwanted ad while its in use. Perhaps you should do your homework before you make your decisions. Im not trying to sound rude, but opinion without factual premise, is just a statement of ignorance. Monday, 13 May 2013 23:39, 1 week ago

Internet Explorer is still the best browser simply because it manages to block every single pop up window that tries to burst upon your screen, something Firefox or Chrome cannot achieve. Not sure if you are paid actor for MS or just trolling. Either way you are incorrect. IE is still horrible regardless of what they do with it. I have to agree with you on this one. For years IE has been a parody of itself, leaving its users more open to spyware, bloatware, malware, and just all around crap. I gave IE a chance years ago, just so that when I tell people I hate it, I speak from experience using it and not merely from my dislike for MS in general. Here are just a few reasons I dislike MS: 1. Their system has many holes, including a still unpatched dll exploit that could potentially crash a system if explored. 2. With every Windows system that comes out, they make it harder and harder to customize. Windows 8, for example, has hidden the dll files that we patch to allow third party theme implementation. Its becoming quite clear that they dont want people having unique experiences with their windows installations. Instead they want you to use the configuration they choose for you. I am against any system or program that tries to force you into a particular setup or configuration. To me, even if it sounds a bit dramatic to some, I consider it software dictatorship and I wont have it! Thats why I am a Linux user, because I choose how my system looks, how it runs, and it operates from configuration files all the way up to program binary and command execution. I am not making this post to promote Linux....I am merely trying to make the point that everyone would be smarter PC users if everyone stopped deciding to use systems and programs that condition you to not tinker, not question, and not explore the default setup. Hello and welcome to another Linux review. Today I will be doing a review on Archbang's latest release.
Today I had the urge to nerd out a little. My issue with the desktop all in one still is not fixed because frankly, I do not have much time to work on computers anymore. However when I brought it back online today I noticed all was well before I updated. So, I will continue to run it without updating and see what happens, and by the way this review is being written on it! Anywho.... So I am typing this on a fresh install. The default theme I did away with already so I cant show you that. For that, you will have to go to the website or look it up. The thing you will of course notice going into it, is that the newer version is a much lighter install, having not near as many default installed applications. For example, it has no torrent client or irc client by default. If you want them you have to install them yourself. Some would call this a drawback, I say its nice because it saves me a little work of having to remove the one that was installed by default and then install mine. To each his own I suppose. The install comes with the latest Firefox, and adobe flash player works out of the box and requires no initial configuration. Archbang 2013 also uses the same slim login manager as previous versions, which I don't mind at all, honestly. The system seems to be using a new version of glibc also, as it is clearly not systemd from what I can tell. It has an updated, and much sleeker default look for its tint2 panel, and conky is being shipped with autostart disabled. It is, however, the same script as previous versions. If you want to trick it out you will still have to do that yourself. Here is a screenshot of my current setup with it. I haven't done much configuration, save for the bare essentials, but I have implemented a very simple anonymous inspired theme. The tint2 panel is default, believe it or not, so you will be able to see that and also the icon pack is default as well. ![]() I am pleased to note that they are still using SpaceFM, slightly updated of course. They also have a new music player installed by default and I must say I like the look of it and have elected to keep it. Its called pragha. Here is what it looks like: ![]() As stated above I will continue to run this without updating and hope that it will continue to run smoothly, because I really like this set up. The best part is, it took me less than 10 minutes to setup! All in all I think its a great distro, and if your looking to learn about Linux and Arch, this will allow you to do so without throwing you into the wild quite like Arch Linux is known to do. Ill give it a 9.5/10 rating for simplicity and speed. Thank you all for reading! Sunday, 21 Apr 2013 07:34, 1 month ago

views: 94381 Hi, I am having a problem logging into KAT when using firefox on my Linux partition. Windows is buggy and drives me nuts but using Waterfox and Lastpass I have no issues with logging in. When I am using Linux, Firefox and Lastpass I am not able to log in. I can log into any other site I try, but KAT won't let me. Any ideas would be great! Thanks. That is strange. Are you using official Firefox or a modified build? I ask because sometimes when using modified builds it has issues running some of the addons. If it is your official Firefox, try removing and reinstalling it, but only after you've tried removing unneeded files and cache using bleachbit Tuesday, 16 Apr 2013 10:38, 1 month ago
