Wanneer er plotseling een wereldwijde geologische verstoring de planeet bedreigt, begint een wanhopige zoektocht naar een verdwenen schrijver waarvan wordt verondersteld dat hij toekomstige rampen kan voorspellen. Maar al snel wordt de auteur dood gevonden. Hij heeft een oude wichelroede in zijn bezit, dat beelden van de toekomst geeft aan degene die hem vasthoudt. Wanneer de roede een sombere toekomst van de aarde laat zien, begint een race tegen de klok om te zoeken naar eeuwenoude middelen die kunnen helpen tegen de verstoringen die de planeet letterlijk in tweeën splitsen.
