Jack Carver (Til Schweiger) stand früher in Lohn und Brot der Special Forces. Den Beruf als Einzelkämpfer hat er längst an den Nagel gehängt, um im tropischen Mikronesien nun einen kleinen Bootsverleih zu betreiben. Als er die Reporterin Valerie (Emmanuelle Vaugier) auf ein abgelegenes Archipel geleitet, versenken Unbekannte sein Boot. Jack kann dem Anschlag knapp entkommen, aber die Journalistin bleibt verschwunden. Die Insel entpuppt sich als Hölle.
