Screenshot - mandatory

in Site Mechanics, Design and Development

Hi
if screenshots can be applied as mandatory that will be great for users. We can compare the quality of video if more than same copy available for a movie..
thanks

Please require PNG of at least 24bit... jpg like mp3 destroys quality

Screenshot should be mandatory, I've downloaded quite a few brrips and look nothing like a brrip. I think no one wants to waste there time downloading something they weren't hoping for.

It would be possible to code a linux server side application that would pull a few random frames from the video however it would be hard to obtain the video since it's not being directly uploaded to site.
It may be hard for every user to reproduce the same screen capture/movie capture settings.
Whilst it would be useful I don't know that it should be required.

It would be useful to do that, maybe not a screen shot though. Maybe we can take an exact file out of the actual upload. The same way you upload files to KAT, you will be able to preview a part of the video using another feature which is much like the viewing process that youtube has.

It should at least be mandatory to post the information about Language, resolution, subtitles and if it's protected by Cinavia etc.. I find a lot of uploaders don't post anything. It would be nice to have some idea what your getting, not just the movie title.

Perhaps KAT should adopt the uploading method of other torrent sites which require you to select which language the audio/video is and to categorize it into standard definition or high resolution picture.

I check the title for a recognizable name that's known for posting quality stuff. Then look at any comments for helpful friendly users reviews.

I like this idea, however, my first thought is about authenticity. What's stopping somebody from linking a screen shot of a better quality video to their own. Honesty is a great policy, but it has its flaws.
The server space issue pointed out by HairyLegs is a valid point too, the number of torrents hosted here is immense and I bet that space would be gobbled up quickly if it's mandatory. Then you get in to image quality reduction to save space, which in turn cancels out any benefit of gauging video quality based on a few screen shots. (are the images hosted here or by external sites like photobucket?)
I decided to click the "i like this" button because I like to see screen shots (I can't always be bothered downloading and watching the video sample) before I download videos. Since as a mandatory requirement, it might not do so well, may I suggest maybe giving the uploader an extra reputation point for adding screenshots? I know you uploaders like to keep a good rep smile

This is a mistake in my opinion simply because of the amount of unnecessary space this will take up on the servers. NOT necessary. People who have rated, commented, and givin the thumbs up/down will tell you enough about the quality of the film they downloaded.
