Il mostro pennuto (privo di testa?) che sulle locandine giganteggia schiantando con gli artigli grattacieli svettanti e scacciando con le ali possenti aerei da combattimento è, in realtà, sullo schermo uno striminzito uccellaccio grottesco che evoca gli incubi di cartapesta del peggiore cinema messicano o giapponese. E la tensione che dovrebbe inchiodare lo spettatore si riduce tutta nel vedere tre attori che nel genere di fantascienza hanno pur avuto qualche merito sforzarsi a provare spavento per il penoso, animalesco protagonista. Conosciuto anche con il titolo The Mark of the Claw. Mentre il mistero avvolge la scomparsa di alcuni aerei in ricognizione nelle regioni artiche, una mostruosa, gigantesca creatura alata fa la sua apparizione nei cieli dell'America settentrionale. L'aeronautica militare non ci mette molto ad associare quella incredibile presenza con le inspiegabili sparizioni e appronta immediatamente un piano di emergenza, ma l'orrenda cretura si fa beffe dei caccia che le vengono mandati contro per distruggerla. Il mostro, in realtà, è immune alle armi dell'esercito grazie ad una sorta di schermo di antimateria che lo circonda. Unica possibilità di abbattere la creatura è infrangere lo scudo che la protegge.
