(NB: Audition 1.5 was used for adjusting DC bias, editing (incl. manual removal of clicks and pops), adding gain, collapsion of the right and left channel to mono, and making the cue points. Nuendo 2.0 was used for downsampling and dithering to 16 bit using the Apogee UV22hr.) Engineered by Eddie Kramer Produced by Chas Chandler Mastered by Bernie Grundman Vinyl transfer & Restoration / Torrent Produced by Prof. Stoned Artwork by Ektachromeplain & partially scanned from Reprise 6281-2 CD. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Prof. says: This is a fresh rip to upgrade the first rip I did, about a year ago. There are a few reasons why this one sounds superior to the original one: -I used a different cartridge. As a result, the recording now sounds undistorted from beginning to end & has a far more natural sounding high-end. -Proper collapsing of the left and right channel. This is something I failed to do with the previous rip. Because this record was produced with a mono cutter head, the audio on both channels (as picked up by a stereo cartridge) is identical. However, this is not the case with clicks and pops and so adding both tracks together results in 50% less clicks and pops. -No click and crackle software used this time. All pops that where there are manually removed, and because of the left/right collapsing and the fact that the new cartridge tracks this record so much better than the old, the recording became very quiet. The source for this was not an 1967 Track mono copy, but the vinyl-only reissue on Classic Records in 2000 (think MFSL, Analogue, DCC) in cooperation with Experience Hendrix. A wonderful pressing, mastered 100% analogue with vintage tube equipment, as it should be. I transferred it to the digital domain with great care. No futzing with the wonderful dynamics, of course! See the mastering notes scan in the artwork folder for more details. Unlike what many people may think, the stereo mix of this album sounds much more dated than the mono mix. The reason for that lies in that fact that it was recorded on 4-track, which offer limited panning possibilities. But the balance between voice and instruments is also somehow better on this mono mix. And the stereo version has a lot of panning around the stereo spectrum which gets kind of tiring to listen to after a while, IMO. Listen, Re-Live and Enjoy! Sharing WidgetTrackers
