A requiem was a mass celebrated for the dead, and, with time, became known as the music played in such circumstances.
Put simply, that (good) movie shows a few people's lives as they try to accomplish things they learned from society to consider as their own goals, their dreams. It shows how money, fame and so-called beauty are in no way guaranteed to bring happiness.
As you probably guess by now, it's not a "happily-ever-after ending" type of movie.
(Oh, and that soundtrack kicks ass, too.)
