Mystery Case Files: Dire Grove è un gioco d'avventura in cui trovare oggetti nascosti. All'inizio del gioco vedi una automobile abbandonata in Dire Grove lampeggiarti e ti avvicini per controllare. Non sei tranquillo perché hai visto una serie di video girati da un gruppo di studenti che stanno studiando le spaventose leggende di Dire Grove per capire dove finisce l'immaginazione ed inizia la realtà.
Ti sorprenderà scoprire che quegli studenti sono scomparsi e che tu, improvvisamente, ti trovi coinvolto in queste leggende. Dovrai decidere se viaggiare in inquietanti scenari innevati alla ricerca di indizi; ed è da questo punto che la storia di Mystery Case Files: Dire Grove inizia.
In alcuni livelli le tue capacità verranno messe alla prova nella risoluzione di arguti puzzle, come quello in cui dovrai sistemare in circolo una serie di puntatori ed assicurarti che nessuno di essi si sovrapponga.
