Recorded from on-the-air 1080i HDTV, this is an SNL episode featuring host Dane Cook and musical The Killers. I?m sure those SNL fans who can?t stay up that late will appreciate this. Dane Cook fans won?t be disappointed. He?s very funny and makes an otherwise average SNL show exceptionally amusing. The ?Cubicle? skit is hilarious as is the appearance of Brian Williams as Tina Fey's news anchor replacement.

This AVI files is made from an HDTV transport stream (TS) recorded at 1080i, resized to 1280x720p, encoded with 2-pass Xvid at 1400BPS. The audio is DD5.1/AC3 direct from the TS. All the commercials have been edited out, of course. Total runtime is approx 65 mins.

This is an experiment to gauge your interest in avi files of SNL. There was not much interest in the DVDs I was making, perhaps because the files were large, over 2GB per episode. Since the video resolution here is higher than DVD (ie 720 lines compared to 480), it looks sharper than a DVD on a computer. The file is about 1/3 the size of the DVD version. The video is pretty good, but perhaps a little higher bitrate would clear up some of the blockiness.
