ALICE COOPER - I'm Eighteen (1970)
ALICE COOPER - School's Out (1972)
ALICE COOPER - School's Out (1976) (2nd version)
ALICE COOPER - Billion Dollar Babies (1976)

"I'm Eighteen" is a 1970 song by glam rock and hard rock singer Alice Cooper, featured on their first major label release, "Love It to Death". It was the main single from that album and also the band's breakthrough hit. "I'm Eighteen" was ranked #39 on VH1's 40 Greatest Metal Songs, and #482 on Rolling Stone magazine's 500 greatest songs of all time. It also appeared on Guitar magazine as one of the 50 heaviest riffs of all time. The song was covered by thrash metal pioneers Anthrax, on their 1984 album "Fistful of Metal" and was later covered by post-grunge band Creed on the soundtrack to the 1998 movie "The Faculty". The song was also covered by Camp Freddy with Slash on guitar and Chester Bennington of Linkin Park on vocals.
"School's Out" is a 1972 title track single released on Alice Cooper's fifth album."School's Out" became Alice Cooper's first big song, reaching #7 on the Billboard Hot 100 pop singles chart and propelling the album to #2 on the Billboard 200 pop albums chart. The song reached #1 on the UK singles chart for three weeks in August 1972. It also marked the first time that Alice Cooper became regarded as more than just a theatrical novelty act. In 2004, the song was ranked #319 on Rolling Stone's list of the 500 Greatest Songs of All Time.
The lyrics of "School's Out" indicate that not only is the school year ended for summer vacation, but ended forever, and that the school itself has been blown up. It incorporates the childhood rhyme, "No more pencils, no more books, no more teachers' dirty looks" into its lyrics. It also featured children contributing some of the vocals, just as in Pink Floyd's 1979 hit "Another Brick in the Wall (Part 2)"
"Billion Dollar Babies" is an album by Alice Cooper, released in March 1973. It is widely praised as one of the best Alice Cooper albums, and showcased the group at their artistic and commercial peak. Many songs from it remain staples of Alice Cooper's live act to this day: in particular, "I Love the Dead" is usually associated with Cooper's mock-execution, while "Elected" is often used as an encore. "Billion Dollar Babies" peaked at #1 on Billboard's Pop Albums chart. Four singles were released from the album: "Elected" (which peaked at #26 on the Pop Singles chart); "Hello, Hooray"; "No More Mr. Nice Guy" (US #25); and the song "Billion Dollar Babies".

HISTORY OF POP AND ROCK MUSIC

The Roots of Rock 'n' Roll:

Important source of modern rock'n'roll, absolutely essential to the sound we think of as 60's rock, was, first, the Blues. Blues began as the music of black sharecroppers in the poor cotton-farming region of the Mississippi Delta, and traveled north to Chicago with the sharecroppers as thousands of them moved north in search of a better life. It was in Chicago that the blues went from acoustic solo guitar music to electric guitar-electric bass-drums combos. Muddy Waters, Little Milton, B.B. King, and Howlin' Wolf were just a few of these important Chicago blues artists.

Sixties rock finds its roots in several places, starting as far back as the big swing bands of the pre-war era that the 60's kids' parents listened to as youngsters: Glenn Miller, Benny Goodman, Count Basie, Tommy and Jimmy Dorsey, and Duke Ellington's bands are some of the most famous. Except for Duke Ellington, all those bands were primarily dance bands, with big swinging backbeats.
