"Lady Jane" is a song by The Rolling Stones that featured on their 1966 album "Aftermath". It delivers an Elizabethan atmosphere with its lyrics and haunting instrumentation showcasing Brian Jones on dulcimer, and indeed was rumored at one point to be about the wives of Henry VIII. It was written by Mick Jagger and Keith Richards and is considered by many fans to be the highlight of Aftermath and one of their best tunes.
"Substitute" is a song by The Who written by Pete Townshend. It was released as a single in March 1966, when it reached #5 in the UK, and was later included on the compilation album ?Meaty Beaty Big and Bouncy? in 1971.The song was a fan favorite and was played at almost every concert that The Who performed. It appears on the "Live at Leeds" album as well as "Live at the Isle of Wight Festival 1970". Also in a BBC radio appearance Pete Townshend stated that "Substitute" simply "was about nothing" and it "had no hidden meaning".
"Paperback Writer" is a song written by Paul McCartney and John Lennon and released by The Beatles on the A side of their eleventh single. It went to the number one spot in Britain, the United States, West Germany, and Australia. This was the first Beatles single that was not a love song.On the U.S. Billboard Hot 100, "Paperback Writer"'s two-week stay at number one was interrupted by Frank Sinatra's "Strangers in the Night".Although the song was not included on an original Beatles album, it was included in several compilation albums.
"My Sweet Lord" is a song by former Beatle George Harrison from his UK number one hit triple album "All Things Must Pass". Session musicians on the track included Eric Clapton. The song is primarily about God, and features repetitions of the avatars of Lord Vishnu, the preserving god in Hinduism.When released as a single, "My Sweet Lord" topped the charts on both sides of the Atlantic.Entering the British charts in the first week at No. 7 and then hitting the summit for five weeks, it was the first single by an ex-Beatle to reach No. 1.
"Blue Bayou" is the title of a song written by Americans Roy Orbison and Joe Melson (1963).The song would later be recorded by several others including Linda Ronstadt (1977) and in the French language by France's Mireille Mathieu.Linda Ronstadt is a Grammy-winning, multi-platinum singer most closely associated with the folk rock and country rock genres prevalent in the 1970s.By the end of the 1970s, Ronstadt had collected eight gold and four platinum certifications for her albums, a considerable feat at the time. She was often referred to then as the "highest paid woman in rock," able to command sell-out concerts in arenas hosting tens of thousands of fans.
"Give a Little Bit" is a song with writing credits given to Rick Davies and Roger Hodgson, members of Supertramp, although it is generally acknowledged to be a Hodgson composition. It is the opening track on Supertramp's 1977 album "Even in the Quietest Moments..". The song was released as a single that same year and became a hit for the band internationally, including a number fifteen peak on the Billboard Hot 100. The song became even more famous for its appearance in the 1978 film Superman, where ten seconds of the song were heard just prior to the earthquake sequence.
