It is mostly made of wartime footage from 1939-1945 (or earlier), with many additional testimonies filmed in the early 1970's, still in film; what did you expect? a neat Spielberg remake? Great documentary, splendid narration, superbly organized. The size may have to do with some excessive zeal in trying to preserve all the quality. It is worth it!

some people confound the "quality" of old and damaged archive footage with the overall picture quality of the documentary using those pictures
