The problem may be the fact that you both may not have the same computer characteristics... For example, you may have a better graphic card, allowing you to have a better performance. Your friends computer may not have the minimum requisits to, at least, run the game normally...

Found this today and felt like sharing, enjoy.
Was at a wedding recently & the preacher told everyone to stand next to the one that made your life worth living. The bartender was almost trampled to death.
